We are passionate about languages and every one of our students studies either French, Spanish and/or Latin. We have a very strong MFL department who believe that the opportunity to talk in a target language is vital to progress and further development of self-esteem and belief in all of the students.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

Volunteers will work as part of the Beaconsfield High School Languages Team to deliver French or Spanish conversation classes to KS4 and KS5 students.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leading conversation sessions with GCSE and/or A level French and/or Spanish students – these could be 1:1 or in small groups of 3 or 4 students.
  • Prior to starting the sessions, volunteers will work with subject lead teachers to understand the aspects of the GCSE and A level speaking exams – to ensure they can help students prepare for the “photo card” and “role play” elements of the speaking exams.
  •  To help develop student’s confidence in understanding and answering questions on a range of GCSE and A level topics, to help correct their pronunciation and grammar.
  • To note any common errors that students make – pronunciation or grammar wise and feed this back to the Head of Department.
  • To maintain accurate records of student attendance to your students and to inform the Head of Department of any student non-attendance
  • To understand and enforce school policy with regard to behaviour management and safeguarding

Hours required:

  • Work hours are flexible, but volunteers will be expected to be available for a minimum of one 2 hour sessions per week for a full academic year.
  • Sessions will mostly be held in the school day 8:50 – 3:30. However, some students will be available for before school sessions.

Skills required:

  • Studying for undergraduate level or above foreign language degree or teaching qualification, ideally with a language specialisation or is a native speaker.
  • Enjoy being with bright motivation students
