Home-Start Hillingdon – Volunteer Recruitment Role

Details of the Charity:

Home-Start Hillingdon (HSH) was established in 1999, to serve the borough of Hillingdon supporting families with young children through dedicated home-visiting volunteers. HSH trains volunteers to support families with at least one child under five and under stress. All family support volunteers have parenting experience so understand the challenges of parenting young children. Volunteers make a weekly visit home visit to a family to give befriending support and practical help.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

We need a volunteer or volunteer team to help us recruit our home visiting volunteers. This is a role that could be done by an individual or two people working together.

This role will entail:

  • Liaising with Home-Start Hillingdon staff to plan and carry out volunteer recruitment
  • To ensure Home-Start Hillingdon staff are kept informed of progress
  • Maintaining a list of suitable places to advertise – currently on Excel
  • Maintaining an active social network presence to help advertise for volunteers
  • Developing links with other media to gain Home-Start Hillingdon free advertising through articles printed about the organisation
  • Organising distributions of leaflets – a driver with use of vehicle would make this easier
  • Identifying and establishing links with possible groups of potential volunteers and possible venues to advertise for volunteers
  • Visiting groups to give a talk about what volunteering for Home-Start entails
  • Organising existing volunteers to attend talks to answer questions, so people in the group feel there are other volunteers similar to themselves in regards to age or background
  • Liaising with other Home-Starts to find out how they successfully recruit volunteers

Skill required:

  • Enthusiastic
  • Confident with networking
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to talk to groups of people
  • IT skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Social media networking (desirable)
  • Some recruitment experience (desirable)
  • Driver with car (desirable)
