Hillingdon Carers – Young Carers Club Volunteer

Details of the Charity:

Hillingdon Carers fun and friendly Young Carers team offers support and guidance to the borough’s young carers. They are skilled in youth work and understand how difficult being a young carer can be. Support is available through:

  • Young Carers Saturday clubs in Harlington
  • Young Carers after school clubs in South Ruislip and Northwood
  • School holiday activities programmes throughout every school holiday, including half term
  • Day trips and weekends away
  • Someone to talk to
  • Support for the whole family
  • Support with education and a school liaison programme
  • A chance to meet other young carers
  • Activ8 physical activity programme

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

Main purpose of role:

To encourage Young Carers to have fun and relax in a safe and welcoming environment.

Key responsibilities:

  1. To provide a warm welcome and friendly service
  2. To be an active team member and support the running of cooking, sporting, computer/gaming, arts and crafts and other creative activities
  3. To treat all Young Carers, and their families, with respect, dignity and courtesy

Specialist skills/training/ knowledge:

  1. Clear communication with Young Carers, and Hillingdon Carers staff
  2. Show consistently high standards of professional behaviour and appearance, acting as a positive role model
  3. Be able to reach the venue via public transport or own transport

Tasks:

  1. Assisting in the set up and set down of the club according to procedure as required (including preparation of food, setting up and tidying up of arts and crafts/sports activities)
  2. To interact with the young people and encourage them to participate in the activities on offer if they so wish
  3. Maintenance of a tidy and safe environment at all times
  4. To conduct all dealings with Young Carers in a public area in full view of others

Monday: 15:00-18:00 – Northwood Young Peoples Centre

Tuesday: 15:00-18:00 – South Ruislip Young Peoples Centre

Saturday: 10:00-13:00 – Hayes and Harlington You Peoples Centre
