Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

The role of Volunteer Care Associate will help to relieve family carers of their responsibilities for a few hours each week by supporting the person that they care for. This could either be taking them out in the community or offering companionship to them in their own home. This will help the family carer to have a much need break from their caring role.

Main tasks:

  • Enabling carers to have a break by working with vulnerable people to provide them with support to live as independently as possible
  • Providing companionship to people for a mutually agreed time period
  •  Supporting people to go out in the community to access activities that they enjoy
  • Completing a basic record of the support provided
  • Notifying the office of any concerns, issues or changes to care needs

Volunteers are required for a few hours per week for a minimum of 6 months but preferably at least 9-12 month to ensure continuity of care for the people we support.

Skills Required:

  • Energy, passion and enthusiasm
  • A positive and supportive approach
  • Patience and understanding
  • Reliability and an ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • An understanding of safeguarding vulnerable people (training provided)

Additional Benefits to the Volunteer:

  • Stand out in the job market
  • Travel expenses reimbursed
  • Hours volunteered will be recorded on your HEAR – which goes on your permanent university record
  • All hours contribute towards your Brunel Volunteers Award, which leads to an invitation to the End of Year Volunteers Dinner
