Hillingdon Carers (HARP) – Drop In Advice and Information Volunteer

Details of the charity:

Hillingdon carers is an organisation set up to care for  someone who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problem or can occur suddenly in a change of circumstances such as a hospital admission.

Details of the opportunity:

Purpose: To provide information and advice to clients

-To interview clients in person or by telephone.

-To explore the nature of the problem raised by the client and, where appropriate, their wider circumstances.

-To identify and research information relevant to the users’ situation, drawing on information resources available.

-To present and discuss information with the client in an accessible form, enabling them to identify a suitable solution.

-To obtain written permission from the client for Hillingdon Carers to act on their behalf.

-To act on the clients behalf and represent their interests with third parties by letter, telephone or in person, where appropriate, and at the client’s request.

-To inform clients about services that may be available to them and how to access them and, where appropriate, refer people to other agencies and sources of help.

-To give help with letter writing and completing forms where appropriate.

-To maintain statistical and client records using manual and electronic systems.

-To be aware of Hillingdon Carers policies and other services in order to assist clients.

-To inform senior staff, in a timely manner, of all periods of absence.


***Minimum commitment of 1 day per week 9.00 am – 4.00 pm for at least 9months to 1 year***

Skills required from applicant:

– Good communicators

Any additional benefits to volunteers:  

-All Volunteers would be eligible for a reference after 6 months completed volunteering.
